My Vision for 2004

By Mike Hurdle

Thursday, January 08, 2004

A new year.  Same problems.  Same challenges.  We are in 2004, yet we are having the same discussions that were passionate about 10 years ago.  Like the adage prophetically says, "Something's gotta give".  And right now, in my opinion, the sport is crumbling right before us.  I am dedicating my 2004 year to American Handball.  I have had a long, successful tenure with the Condor Handball Association, and I am very fond of the memories I have created and the friends that I have made.  But as I look at our sport crumbling under us, I must have a new philosophy, and I must contribute more to American Handball.  As such, I am officially stepping down as the President of the Condor Handball Organization.  I will still be involved with CHO, but in a limited capcity.  Nevertheless, for anyone who has seen me play, it will not come as a shock to people that in my heart, I will always be a Condor.  The sun never sets.  Never.

On that Condor fire that is burning in me, I intend to principally contribute to the sport through my new venture, the American Handball Association (AHA).  We are at an exciting period in American handball, because it's full of OPPORTUNITIES.  The AHA will be dedicated this year to building an elite team, developing elite players for our National Team Programs, and working with other clubs to create an self-sustaining Handball National League.  I will use this website to discuss topics with all the USATH Officials and Club Executives, and thereafter taking positive, tangible steps through the AHA.  For me, this year will not only be about transparency and vision, but also about togetherness and ACTION.  We are all members of the same family, and it's up to us to save our sport.  ALL OF US.

Mike Hurdle
President, American Handball Association (AHA)
